Buenos días a todos, gracias por unirse a la llamada de hoy.▋
Good morning everyone, thanks for joining today's call.▋

Spanish is spoken across twenty countries with distinct pronunciation patterns—peninsular θ sounds versus Latin American seseo, Caribbean consonant softening, Rioplatense intonation. When you're in a Zoom call with a supplier in Guadalajara or watching a conference stream from Buenos Aires, those regional differences matter less when you can read every word as English captions. Translext captures the audio playing in your browser, transcribes the Spanish, and displays live English translation without recording anything or inviting bots to the meeting.

Spanish speakers often hit 180-200 syllables per minute in natural conversation, faster than English's typical 150. Subject-verb-object becomes subject-object-verb when pronouns appear—'lo veo' not 'veo lo'—and adjectives usually follow nouns, which means live translation needs a few extra words of context before rendering a sensible English phrase. Translext handles that buffering in real time, showing you captions that make grammatical sense in English even when Spanish syntax runs in a different order.

Why Spanish to English matters

The US shares a physical border and enormous trade volume with Mexico. Texas, California, Florida, and New York have millions of Spanish speakers. If you work in logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, or hospitality, you're probably on calls with colleagues or vendors whose first language is Spanish. Remote work means you might join a standup run in Spanish, attend a webinar hosted in Madrid, or watch a product demo recorded in Medellín. You don't need to become fluent to follow the conversation. You need to know what was just said, while it's being said, so you can ask the right question or catch the action item before the meeting moves on.

How it works in your tab

Install the Chrome extension, open the tab with your meeting or video, and click the Translext icon. The extension captures audio directly from the tab—Google Meet, Zoom in browser, YouTube, any site playing Spanish audio. Transcription and translation happen locally in the browser; nothing is recorded or stored after the session ends. You see Spanish captions with English translation below, and you can toggle text-to-speech if you want to hear the English aloud. Because it runs in the tab itself, there's no bot avatar to admit to your calendar invite and no upload step. The person speaking Spanish never knows you're translating unless you tell them.

When live translation makes mistakes

Fast, unscripted speech is harder than rehearsed narration. Regional slang—'chido' in Mexico City, 'guay' in Madrid, 'chévere' in Bogotá—may transcribe accurately but translate literally, losing the 'cool' equivalent you'd expect in English. Homophones trip up the system: 'valla', 'vaya', and 'baya' all sound identical, and the model picks the wrong one if context is thin. Crosstalk, background noise, and heavy accents reduce accuracy. Translext will misfire on jargon, proper nouns, and very fast speakers. It's a tool to follow the thread of conversation, not a courtroom transcript. You'll catch most of what matters, and you'll spot the gaps when a caption makes no sense.

Spanish → English translation — FAQ

Does it work with Castilian Spanish and Latin American Spanish?

Yes. The transcription model recognizes vocabulary and pronunciation patterns from Spain and across Latin America—distinción versus seseo, vosotros versus ustedes, different words for 'computer' or 'car'. Accuracy varies with audio quality and how much background noise competes with the speaker, but the system doesn't require you to pick a regional dialect in advance. It adapts to what it hears.

Can I use this on a recorded video or only live meetings?

Both. If the Spanish audio is playing in a Chrome tab—a live Zoom call, a YouTube video, a webinar, a recorded training session—Translext can translate it. The extension captures whatever the tab is playing. There's no separate upload feature for video files on your hard drive; the content has to be playing in the browser for the extension to access the audio stream.

Will the other people on my call know I'm translating?

No. Translext runs entirely in your browser tab. It listens to the audio your computer is already receiving; it doesn't join the meeting as a participant, so there's no bot name in the attendee list and no notification sent to the host. The captions appear only on your screen. If you want others to know you're using translation, you'll need to mention it yourself.

Does it handle formal usted vs. informal tú?

The transcription will capture 'usted' or 'tú' correctly because they're different words. The English translation, however, collapses both into 'you'—English lost its thou/you distinction centuries ago. You'll see whether the speaker used formal or informal address in the Spanish caption, but that nuance disappears in the English rendering. If formality level matters for your context, keep an eye on the Spanish text.

How much does it cost?

New accounts receive free minutes to try the service. After that, you purchase credit packs that draw down as you translate. There's no subscription. You pay for the minutes you use, and credits don't expire. The extension will show your remaining balance, and you can add more credit whenever you need it from the account dashboard.
