Privacy Policy

Overview

This policy explains what information Translext (“we”) collects through our browser extension and website, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. Translext's single purpose is to translate audio in your browser in real time — so we collect only what's needed to provide that service, your account, and billing.

Information We Collect

Account information: your name and email address, and either a password (stored only as a secure hash) or, if you sign in with Google, your Google account identifier, name, email, and profile image. Audio you choose to capture: tab, computer, or microphone audio, processed in real time to produce your translation (see “How We Process Audio”) — we never store the raw audio. Session history: if you are signed in, the recognized speech and its translation are saved as text, along with the languages and session times, so you can review past sessions; you can delete this at any time. Billing information: your subscription status, credit balance, and purchase history — card and payment details are collected and processed entirely by our payment processor (Stripe), and we never receive or store your full card number. Settings and preferences you configure. Technical data: authentication tokens (stored on your device) and standard server logs, including IP address, used only for security, abuse prevention, and rate-limiting.

How We Process Audio

When you start a translation, the audio you capture is streamed in real time to Google's Gemini translation service to generate the transcription and translation, then discarded. Audio is processed only while a session is running and stops the moment you stop it — there are no bots and nothing joins your call. We do not record or store the raw audio. Only if you are signed in, the resulting text (never the audio) is saved as session history, which you can delete.

Service Providers We Share Data With

We share the minimum data necessary with the providers that power Translext, who process it on our behalf: Google (Gemini API / Google Cloud) for real-time translation of your captured audio; Stripe for payment processing; Brevo for transactional email such as address verification; and Amazon Web Services and Neon for application hosting and database storage. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising or to determine creditworthiness.

Analytics & Cookies

The Translext extension contains no third-party analytics or advertising trackers; it stores only functional data (your settings and sign-in tokens) on your device. Our marketing website uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate, anonymized usage, which sets cookies; you can opt out using Google's browser opt-out add-on.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to provide and secure the service: to authenticate you, deliver real-time translation and session history, process payments and manage credits, send service-related email, and prevent abuse. We do not use or transfer your data for any purpose unrelated to Translext's single purpose.

Data Retention & Your Choices

You can delete individual history entries, clear your entire history, or delete your account at any time from Settings. When you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our systems within 30 days. Raw audio is never retained.

International Data Transfers

Your information is processed and stored on cloud infrastructure located in the United States (Amazon Web Services and Neon). If you use Translext from outside the United States, you consent to your information being transferred to and processed there.

Security

We use industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest, and limit internal access to personal data on a need-to-know basis.

Children's Privacy

Translext is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
